Background []
Marshall Mathers was born to a low-income white household in a trailer park. His father abandoned his family. Marshall attempted to contact his father many times through letters; tragically, every letter came back as return-to-sender. In his teens and early adulthood, Marshall's discontent with authority manifested (among other things) in his love for hip-hop. Although back then a white rapper made as much sense as a blind painter, Mathers began participating in his local rap scene, honing his skill under the stagename M&M. In time, M&M changed into Eminem, and he continued to move into rap, forming a group called New Jacks and releasing an EP titled "New Jacks" featuring the rapper Proof.
